SPECviewperf® 13 Linux Edition benchmark
The SPECviewperf® benchmark is the worldwide standard for measuring graphics performance based on professional applications. The benchmark’s workloads, called viewsets, represent graphics content and behavior from actual applications.
The SPECviewperf 13 Linux Edition was released on March 13, 2019. It incorporates the same application traces as the Windows edition for the viewsets that use the OpenGL graphics API. Please note that these application traces were obtained from the Windows versions of the applications. With the exception of the Maya, medical and energy viewsets, these tests should not be considered representative of the applications themselves running on Linux. Rather, they should be considered end-user workloads with graphical features similar to those present in the traces.
The benchmark includes the same new features that were introduced in V13 of the Windows benchmark, including:
- Support for 4K resolution displays.
- Upgraded reporting methods, including JSON output that enables more robust and flexible result parsing.
- The current standard SPEC/GWPG user interface, identical to the Windows GUI.
- Updated workloads and scoring that reflect the range of activities found in real-world applications.
Downloads
The SPECviewperf Linux Edition is available for immediate download. It is free for everyone but sellers of computers and related products, who are required to pay a $2,500 vendor license. A SPECviewperf 13 benchmark license covers both Windows and Linux versions; current paid license holders of the Windows version can receive the Linux Edition free of charge.

Running the benchmark
The Linux Edition benchmark has the following minimum requirements:
- Ubuntu Linux 16.04 and 18.04
- OpenGL 4.0
- 2GB of video memory
- 8GB of installed system memory
- 80GB available disk space
- 1920x1080 screen resolution for submissions published on the SPEC website
After downloading the benchmark, unpack the archive in a suitable location by typing “tar -xf SPECviewperf13linux.tar.xz” in a Bash window. A subdirectory named “SPECviewperf13linux” will be created.
From a Bash window, change to the SPECviewperf13 directory, then type “./RunViewperf”. After an initial delay to unpack more data files, the GUI will appear that will allow you to configure and run the benchmark.
