Multimedia Benchmark Group
Holds Second Meeting

The Multimedia Collaborative Benchmark Effort (MCBE) held its second meeting on January 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sun Microsystems in Palo Alto, Calif. The group is working to establish industry-standard, system-level benchmarks for measuring the performance of major multimedia applications. The group's first meeting, hosted by Hewlett-Packard in late November, was attended by representatives from Apple, Berkeley Design Technology, Chromatic Research, Digital Equipment Corp., Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Macromedia, Microsoft, Motorola, SGS-Thomson, Silicon Graphics, and Sun Microsystems.

During the meeting, the MCBE tackled myriad aspects of two questions:

  • Who are our customers?
  • What are the group's goals and the goals of the benchmark?
